Stocks close higher, with S&P 500 at new record

U.S. stocks finished higher Monday, with the S&P 500 closing at a record as corporate earnings continued to top expectations and investors remained optimistic about a U.S.-China trade deal. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed around 131 points, or 0.5%, higher, finishing around 27,089. The S&P 500 rose about 16 points, or 0.6%, finishing near 3,039. The Nasdaq [s:COMP} ended around 83 points, 1%, higher, closing near 8,326. On Monday, earnings from AT&T and Spotify Technology SA surprised to the upside, sending both stocks higher.
